How to make Vegan Marie Rose Sauce

If you’re looking for a vegan alternative to the popular Marie Rose seafood sauce, sometimes called a cocktail sauce, here is your answer! This sauce is made using tomato ketchup, sweet paprika and cashew nuts. Unlike traditional sauces, this recipe does not include any seafood, animal products or eggs.

Marie Rose Sauce is a tomato-based sauce with a chilli kick – It’s very popular in Cajun cooking.

Vegan Marie Rose Sauce

  • Servings: 1 jar

    For the Marie Rose:
  • 150g raw cashew nuts, soaked in water for 2 hours
  • 100g water
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon sweet paprika
  • pinch of cayenne pepper
  • black pepper, to taste


  1. Drain and rinse the soaked cashew nuts.
  2. Place all the ingredients together in a blender and blitz until well combined and you have a beautiful smooth, plant-based sauce.
  3. Transfer into a glass jar and keep in the fridge for up to 7 days.
