How to make Gomasio (Naturally Gluten Free and Vegan)

Gomasio is a Japanese condiment that is naturally vegan and gluten free. Used in rice and savoury dishes, this hearty flavour will add a new add a new dimension to your cooking. Check out my Rainbow Carrot Salad recipe which uses Gomasio.

How to make Gomasio (Naturally Gluten Free and Vegan)

  • Servings: 1 jar

    For the Gomasio:
  • 50g white sesame seeds
  • 30g black sesame seeds
  • pinch of chili flakes
  • 1 tbsp salt


  1. Add the white and black sesame seeds and chilli flakes to a small non stick pan over a medium heat (no need for oil), and fry for a few minutes until slightly toasted. Keep stirring and keep a watch on these so that they don’t burn!
  2. Empty into a small blender, add the salt and blitz until you have a fine flour like consistency.
  3. Add to a glass jar and keep handy in your kitchen.
  4. This is a great condiment to sprinkle on all sorts of dishes, such as salads, stir frys, toast toppings etc.
